kids on the slope (sakamichi no apollon) is heavily based on the music and soundtrack of the anime, as expected being directed by Shinichirō Watanabe.
it really doesn't disappoint, the music is absolutely perfect and easily the best part of the show, diving deep into the classic jazz of the 1960's, if you love jazz this show is perfect for you, or if you are like me and just love music its well worth a watch. the artwork in the show is not your standard anime style (again, typical of Shinichirō Watanabe.) but the standard of the animation at points is absolutely immaculate, for instance any scene showing Sentaro Kawabuchi performing improv on his drum kit; its honestly some of the most fluid animation i have ever seen.
the story is fairly light to start but will hook you within the first few episodes, it becomes more and more emotional as the show progresses and i would advise some tissues for your tears in the last couple episodes.
overall kids on the slope is very very charming and is perfect for the music lover or fans of Shinichirō Watanabe's work. it is one of my personal favourites and i would recommend it again and again
