Grisaia no Kajitsu, starts out as a run of the mill harem anime. Grisaia does not stand out very much in the beginning due to its harem tricks but I imagine those tricks were only to grab hold of viewers as the series started to break away from the usual harem hijinks and moved towards a gripping storyline. I know right? A harem with a plot. So whenever your friends ask you with a smug face "Hey, are you sure you're watching it for the plot?" you can valiantly say "Why, I sure am!"

To kick things off the story, or plot in this case, can be described as a character driven plot as the main character explores the past and personalities of every girl around him. Now this may not be different from some harems, but what really makes a character driven plot shine is its characters which I will get to in a bit.

The art and animation is just staggering. The colors, the saturation, and the detail. The stimulating visuals is what first caught my attention to first start the anime.

The sound was solid voice acting was great, BG music, as well as a great OP and ED. There really is not much to complain about.

Now on to the characters! Now I will say not every character is perfect but majority of their respective arcs were very interesting. Some I believe needed some more screen time because the anime did not reveal enough about them. I wish I could speak of their stories but that will lead me to spoil some touching scenes, but I can speak of my experience watching them. Personally, I grew to love the tsundere (You'll know who when you watch it) arc the most because for some reason she pulled my heartstrings more than the others. The other character arcs gave me one hell of an experience as I could not predict the life they had. Every character had a life very much unique to their character and their character alone.

I enjoyed this anime more than I would like to admit since I am not a fan of the harem genre. Throughout the anime I had to remind myself that this is in fact a harem anime because the anime always seemed to branch off from it. The anime itself foreshadowed a lot of stuff that was not present in the show but stayed in the back of your head leaving you to ponder question after question of what they could possibly mean.

Overall Grisaia was a great anime that I could possibly see myself watching again in the future. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that there is a second season currently airing which will answer the questions left over from the first season. The most prevalent question being, "Who exactly is .." Oh, I'm sorry I forgot that I should steer clear from spoilers; however, there's nothing wrong with a little teasing right? I hope you enjoy this anime as much as I did and remember this is a harem anime, but at the same time its something entirely different.
