This anime is about musicians so how's the soundtrack? The soundtrack is the best I've heard. The highlights are the pieces that the musicians themselves play which have the emotion and quality differences that the stories explains them to have. Outside of the performances, the music is also great with moving piano melodies being the stand outs. As for the plot, this anime I think is first and foremost about inspiration. Who motivates you to strive for your best? Is it your parent whose admiration you want? It is the competitor who always beats you? It is the women you love who plays with such passion? The character's all have the person who they want to reach with their music. The performance is a means to reach that person with their music. During the performance the musician don't just sit and play. You hear what is going though their heads, and you hear that emotion being poured into the music they play. It's all very moving and very powerful. As for the romances, the main romance meant a lot more to me during the first half of the anime, as the female dragged the protagonist kicking and screaming onto the stage where he ended up taking inspiration from her. In the second half the anime focuses more on another girl who is a long time family friend of the protagonist. The main romance is just much more powerful and interesting then this one. The second girl loves him because they have been together for so long. The first girl loves him because they are both musicians and he inspires her which is, in my view, a much better reason to love someone. The anime is also gorgeous with bright vivid colors that are referenced multiple time in the dialogue (along the lines of you bring color to my world). There is also some great metaphors that are used in this anime with cats and stars. Overall, the music alone is enough to make the anime worth watching. The moving story and interesting characters are thoroughly entertaining the rest of the time.
