Hi guys!~ This is my first ever review ^^ I found this anime via Crunchyroll and it's pretty good. With a fast paced story, great characters and beautiful sound effects, it's worth watching!~
Story: 8
Since the synopsis has been given, I'll just quickly do a run through. Even though it seems like it's just about school kids learning magic, it is so much more than that. Through Tatsuya, we can see so much of how magic can corrupt people and how it can change everyone's lives. The story was very well developed and I was impressed with the idea that magic can be scientific. If you don't understand any principles, the show did a mini series that explained all the theories and systems in 2095. Just search up in the Funimation channel on YouTube. The story was also very unpredictable, which made it very exciting and tense. Another interesting thing was one of Tatsuya's friends and classmates uses Ancient Magic, as opposed to Modern Magic. It was very enjoyable to see the old and new world mix together. Even though there's so much more, I felt the story was very satisfying. Additionally, this anime proved that not all animes need a pervert or a sexual joke at every turn.
Art: 8
The art was very nice. The scenery was gorgeous especially on the First High School Campus during the spring. The sakura tree scenes made me wish I was in Japan.
Sound/Music: 10
The sound effects were great. They sounded really realistic. The ops and endings are quite nice too. The first one, Rising Hope by LiSA, is one of my all time favorites.
Character: 7
Although the story was good, the character development was a bit trippy. I'll give you this example. In the first episode, we see a flashback where we see Miyuki seemingly scared and Tatsuya seemingly protecting her. I wish the anime further explored what happened that day. In the light novels, which I read a bit, they do explain and this event is very crucial to character development for the Shiba siblings and explaining why Tatsuya and Miyuki are so attached to each other. There's so much in Mahouka to explore and help further develop the characters. I was a bit upset when the anime ended and not much of Tatsuya's past was revealed. He is a character that has so many features worthy of development. If only the anime had more episodes...
Enjoyment 9
I loved the story, which always brought suprises and action in every episode, but, as I said before, I was a little disappointed with character development.
Overall: 9
This anime was a roller coaster ride and I'm glad I watched it. It's really worth watching~
