Honestly my reasons for favorites generally speaking, aren't all that specific. For example, my love of Hajime no Ippo comes from the simplicity of the story and the believable characters. Everyone seems perfectly motivated for their personality. I can also say "Ippo punch good and stuff" but I prefer to contemplate why a show resonates with me. For Ippo, it was inspiring. In many anime you see characters that "love what they do". And my general reaction is "good for you Mr. Character", but in Ippo you feel their words. You feel their dedication. This normal person pushing themself as hard as they can, not because the character wants to be the strongest, hell, it's not even because he loves boxing with an immense passion. It's because he wants to know what being strong is. He wants to know what it means. He associates strength with his late father, and is trying to fill the hole in his heart with purpose. So he gets stronger, he meets many fantastic characters along the way. In the end that's why the show resonated with me, it's because I too seek strength. I too try to fill my heart with purpose. And that, is why Ippo inspired me. That is why I loved Ippo. So much meaning in such a simple concept.
