So..a combination James Bond, Tony Stark, G.I. Joe goes undercover with his X-Man sister (whom he has almost an incestuous relationship with) at Number one Harry Potter school in 2090s post-war neo-feudal Japan, while battling the Chinese military and an array of mafia gangsters in his spare time. Sounds like it's got something going for it yeah? And yet somehow it gets bogged down in explaining high tech magic techniques and gadgetry like how one on one Shonen series battles get bogged down with opponents explaining their fighting technique to each other to the power of ten. What could be an amazing thing is dour and boring three quarters of the time and I feel sympathy or affinity with absolutely none of the characters.
On the plus side, the nationalistic and bald faced anti-Chinese propaganda is amusing as hell. The writers totally give their commie neighbours across the pond a big middle finger. It will be interesting to see how an American dub handles this matter. A second series is teased so we will probably get it whether we want it or not. The anime seems to have elicited strong opinions of loathing and fanboydom, I'm left shrugging my shoulders and wondering if I can order a decent CAD off Tor.
