short story- What happens after death is basically what it is.
Story- Ok the story takes place in a bar basically theres the bartender and 2 people they cant leave until they play the game the bartender chooses aka decim which is the main characters name the games go from bowling to arcade video games to pool etc but the major and main thing of the story is death hence the name "death parade" parade being a special day where you have fun and what not so the name fit perfectly for the anime's story. The story is basically what happens when a person dies where do they go and what happened to cause their deaths as well as what intentions do they have in that moment in the bar and what did they have before they died. Basically no memories when they arrive and as the game goes on its exactly what you expect i wont spoil that part. But overall a really damn good story the games are not repetive every one person who wins either plays fair or dirty.... basically showing the true intentions of a human being and honestly it kind of reflects on what we humans in real life think happens when we die if you are a religious person.
Art- So damn good one of the best i have seen in some time the characters look good the bar looks really detailed the lighting looks great in like every single scene and just the overall feel to the show in its art its studio did a really great job with it no complaints just on point 10/10.
Sound- The opening theme is completely amazing and honestly it fits the show as well as the ending and heres why the opening theme is cheerful really makes you want to dance and as for the story you dont expect anything in the beginning so you are not sad you are probably cheerful but by the time you see the ending to most episodes that is the ending theme is just great and completely fits it in good moments and during sad moments. The songs in the background for alot of scenes really gives you feels, suspense and just make you calm when it needs to be.
Character- This is the only thing i think the show lacks they got their main characters revolving around decim the bartender, chiyuki the girl with decim who really doesnt know anything about what happened to her so she has to be taken care of until the final judgement arrives, nona the girl who basically runs the things decim and some of the other arbiters do and some old man i really forget his name but he is basically 2nd in line to God. Arbiters dont show much emotion in their characters so good to say theres no character development..... besides in the ending but most of the characters are the same throughout the series the people who are judged by the arbiters have their own stories so it really depends on who and what you like i can say first hand that some of them are great others ok and 1 just terrible those minor characters can really make you cry once you hear about what their stories were some were just so sad some were just stupid and others you would just feel sorry for yourself after hearing em just alot of feels for most of em but even though it lacks strong characters it really still pulls through on its end although it lacks in this area compared to everything else it doesnt downplay anything and because its the type of anime it is your bound not to have these crazy dynamic characters for what it did it was nearly perfect and pulled it off well i enjoyed the characters even the bad ones besides the old man.
Enjoyment- This is probably the only anime that i have rewatched the same episode on the same day just so i could remember it fully until the next episode came and repeated it i would definatly watch this anime again for a mainstream anime that had hype it really delivered and it was absolutely amazing i would even call this a masterpiece unique story and the off throwing opening theme that seamlessly fits right into every single episode i couldnt stop thinking about every episode i watched during the day i watched one by episode 3 i was hooked, as you could tell i really enjoyed it great story, great art, smooth animation, great music for opening and ending and great background music & great sounds in general, Really good characters alot of the stories will make you tear up everything i wanted from an anime i got it even had fighting and its not even in that type of genre.
Loved/Hated: Loved- music, story, art, Chiyuki, Nona, mayu, games, pressure, feels. Hated- the old man..... thats it.
Overall- As far as im concerned i can not praise this anime enough it told a great story as the main focus and told really damn great side stories for every person who came into the bar for me top 5 ANIME ive seen in past 5 years that means series that came out in 2010-2015 nothing before those years even if its ongoing from prior years to that. It definitely is not for kids and definitely isnt for people who cant grasp the story its kind of a niche type of anime basically meaning it caters to a specific type of group of people although myself i watch any kind of anime so it really doesnt matter but 10/10 nonetheless masterpiece as far as im concerned.
Suggestion- Give it a watch if your a anime fan in general give it a watch but if your hoping for some ninja star stuff this wont be your cup of tea nor will you like it..... You really shouldnt expect anything mainly because this anime is like 1 of a kind in terms of the story and the way the music is set up just watch it.
Final verdict - Death parade gets my stamp of approval... in my opinion the best anime of the winter season in 2015. I was Wowed and i was super suprised with how great it was the final episode is feels after feels and just a great moment and how much human emotions represent with action you will see what decim does in the ending and thats what i mean by human emotions through action. WATCH IT
