Now it has been many months since I have watched this show, and I have forgotten a lot, but the reasons that had stuck with me to watch this show are its in depth characters and their amusing interactions (mixed in with some wacky and cool supernatural things), its romance twists and turns, its comedy, its deepness and complexity with regards to how humans think and act, and its uniqueness and creativity (supernatural occurrences). So basically it's a supernatural romance comedy, HA, what could possibly go wrong?
The "what could possibly go wrong" section. It has plot holes, it was no clear objective in its story, it's an arc anime (an animes based off arcs rather than episodic or one objective. This could either be a positive or a negative to some), the romance CAN feel random to some people, its generic characters (but later on in the show you realize they're not JUST generic!! So that's a bonus...), and its "friendship is power!!" moments. But again, later on in this show they give you a new outlook on things that make it enjoyable.
Not so slightly less longer review, aka, long review:
Relooking on this anime after a while now, I don't think it was as great as I had first impersonated it to be. There were a few things that just didn't feel right to me now that I thin back on it.
One of those things is its plot holes, oh my lordy.... if you watch this anime, trust me, all your "okay hopefully they'll explain this at the end of the story" will not come true. I repeat, this will NOT come true, this is a fair warning before diving into this show.
It also doesn't really have a story, if that makes sense. It doesn't have a clear objective, I guess is what I mean to say. The story is more about how these 5 people are together and their crazy random moments that happen to them. Which is honestly, what makes this show so enjoyable to watch. Because although there are a few things wrong with this show, you can still enjoy those nice moments.
I felt as I was watching this show that it had a very nice depth on its characters, although some characters were generic (the overly nice guy that could almost never do harm? Come on...) but you get to know more about them, if that makes sense. You realize that there's something more to these characters than what they're showing you and it's nice to see that. Throughout their fun and unique reactions to the new supernatural things happening to all of them you get to see those nice little tidbits that are cool to see.
The romance in this show is also not bad, not bad at all, it was again, enjoyable to watch and you will see a cool little twist every now and then. And I mean like, ToraDora level twists where the MC's love interest isn't exactly cut and paste clear. Although as I look back on the show it does somewhat feel like to me "okay.... um... so... what exactly made her/him like her/him?" But nonetheless it was still enjoyable to watch.
There were also some very deep and not commonly talked about topics of how people are that was portrayed in this show that gave this anime for me a major bonus. I speak on a personal level: one of the characters felt lost in the sense that she felt like she didn't know who she was because she's been faking her persona for so long. Those are very subtle things that not a lot of people, let alone shows care to portray. This show sort of scratches the surface on those subtle emotions which is always something you can appreciate. You also feel like there's a reason people are doing the things they are doing. It's harder to explain without giving away spoilers, so I'll just hope you watch this show.
