Berserk, is one of the greatest anime's and manga's ever created. Why? because it mashes together a very mature and adult anime. This anime is serious to the bone handling mature themes, gore, philosophy and lots of bloody fighting. The show combines badass fighting, with philosophy about ambition and war. The amount of gore in the show gives the show an intense and dark setting as the show explores the darkest of human natures and desires. This isn't a kiddie ride. The dark theme of the anime gives it a very serious and mature feeling. As if the events could happen in real life. Which is what i liked, because the show is so real, not exactly realistic, but the emotion of characters, development, philosophy, themes, it feels so real it creates an atmosphere of a dark story. The action is also very well done, there are some parts where a picture is used to describe the fighting but besides those scenes the animation is greatly depicting battle. However not making it too over the top and instead gory yet not over-doing it. There are no dull characters in this show, everyone has a distinct personality with their own personal issues and they all develop throughout the story and change over time. Music is well done, the opening song "Tell me Why" by the penpals although may seem skepitcal to some people, it somehow fits the show despite its dark theme. Overall Berserk is enjoyable for a mature audience, don't expect too much comedy, or common anime sterotypes such as big breasted women, and or hot women or young good-looking noble heroes as the main character. This is one hell of a masterpiece. if you like Action, without that shonen-animeness, and a deep storyline with great characters and character development. Then this is for you.
