So Fate/Zero the prequel to Fate/Stay Night is utterly fantastic. It is more mature than it predecessor, great animation, fantastic fights and it has the distinction of being a story with no heroes in it. Because of this fact that there are no heroes everyone is ruthless and brutal in all out contest for ultimate power. Though like its predecessor the main theme deals with the nature of ideals. More importantly how far are you willing to go for your ideal and how much are you willing to sacrifice. However, if you sacrifice everything for an ideal, does it remain an ideal? Regardless i enjoyed the raving psychopaths and the egomaniacs conduct their evil schemes to sacrifice mankind on a high altar for the own power but i enjoyed the grey characters all the more. All with their own ideals and wishes for a better world which makes it hilarious that they have to bathe their hands in increasing amounts of blood just so they can lie to themselves that they are working towards a better world. On its own Fate/Zero stands out but as a whole for the Fate Series it compliments the whole and corrects nearly all the problems of its predecessor. Even adding nuances which makes a second watch of the original series all the more worthwhile as histories and relationships which are never addressed are brought to the fore adding a new layer of complexity. This is one i will watch again and using this this as a springboard for the remake of Fate/Stat Night has made it all the better. 9/10
