Zetsuen no Tempest was something I really enjoyed. I thought the references to Hamlet and the Tempest were amazing, and the mindfuckery was also appreciated. I also really, really, really liked the characters (esp. Yoshino, Mahiro, and Aika). One thing especially unique to Zetsuen no Tempest is the overall complexity of the characters. Although other anime also have similarly complicated and/or messed up characters, Zetsuen no Tempest is basically centered around these almost incomprehensibly complex characters. Because these characters are so layered and complicated, unraveling each desire/dream/etc. provides great interest and satisfaction for the viewer.
