Highschool of the Dead is your typical, run of the mill zombie flick about high school students trying to survive in a zombie apocalypse, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. What surprised me was the great quality of the animation and soundtrack, and the action scenes. This anime featured a lot of gory, over-the-top action scenes, even for a zombie flick. Coupled with the soundtrack, it made it a pretty thrilling and enjoyable experience.

Regardless of the fact that it has a lot of aesthetic appeal, Highschool of the Dead is lacking, due to it's cliched plot and it's unrealistic characters, who I didn't really care about. Frankly, after watching many films/series from the same genre, it felt expected and predictable. Additionally, the over-sexualisation of just about all the female characters and the sexual nature of many scenes just felt out of place; wrong even.

Highschool of the Dead is what it is: your usual zombie flick, nothing more, nothing less. Still, it was a pretty good watch.
