Kill la Kill is one of my personal favorites. With a unique setting (not that any high school is a unique anime setting... just this one), well developed characters, and some of the most action packed, plot twisting, awe inspiring episodes I've had the pleasure of watching, I can't really say anything except... it's awesome.
The plot seems pretty standard at first but develops a lot along with the characters as we get to know the kill la kill universe.
The characters are very interesting and offer interesting twists and developments all the way through as well. Without giving away any spoilers, I should just say that you can't take anything at face value in this one. While some of the characters start off as tropes and relatively standard templates, they are always expanded upon and made into their own creation. I found myself constantly interested in each and every one of them.
Plot wise, get ready for some twists and turns because the anime you're going to be watching at episode 15 is NOT the same one you're watching at episode 1. There are several U-turns and enormous twists that keep the entire thing really interesting and towards the end, every single episode feels like the series finale. Seriously, each and every episode feels like the stakes can't get any higher, the fights can't get any crazier, the villains can't be more insane and then the next episode proves all of that wrong and ups the scales even more.
The animation is really strong, not the very best, but the stylistic choices are easy to watch and fit very well with the overall feel of the anime. Also visually, get ready for fanservice. There's a lot of that. However, this is the first anime or show or movie or anything that I've seen to work into the plot reasons for why there is so much fanservice. After they explained it, I was thinking "Oh yeah! They do need to show skin. Lots of it!" I mean... it's an excuse, but they put effort into it and it was fun. Luckily, the fanservice rarely distracts from the action.
This quirky, funny, exciting anime has a special place for me and I recommend anyone to try it out. I have heard that some people don't like how it starts and it can be slightly dry early on but trust me, if you can make it to episode 15 (which won't be hard if you liked it as much as I did), you're in for one heck of a ride at the end.
Kill la Kill- a well written story, exciting characters, and visuals that make this anime a work of art... and fanservice. that too.
