Beck (Anime) add (All reviews)

Well, I can say a lot about this anime. Good things and bad things. Beck is, generally speaking, a good anime. It has a good story about a good-for-nothing boy who discovers himself as someone talented for music, being able to play the guitar and sing very well. It goes on with him meeting Ryuusuke, another guitar player who is befriended with a famous band guitarist. Its about they forming a band and about their development on music.
The good things: story is great, who never had the teenage dream of having a band and debuting on a large live? The characters are nicely built and their personalities are sure something that stand out. You will surely identify yourself with the good hearted Koyuki, the explosive Chiba or the cool Ryuusuke. The music is, of course, something else, as the whole anime revolves about it. The anime is fun to watch and in the end you find yourself going to look for torrents of the musics, because they really end up sticking to your head.
The bad thing: the animation. Geez, this point was not well done. Its just a hunch, but I think that as animating people playing instruments is more complex and consequently more expensive, the budget got in a pinch with the people-playing-stuff sequences. Therefore, there are a lot of scenes that you can see clearly that the animators are saving resources, such as when people are playing or singing or even talking and you can just see their upper bodies, or even just the background while the music/conversation goes on. This irritated me a little bit because if the animation wasnt like this, this anime would be definitely a 9. A good example of instruments animation is seen with Sakamichi no Apollon, for example. If theres a right way to to it, those guys did. If theres a wrong way to do it, the animators for Beck did it.
