Well, this review is depending on my opinion, if it doesn't fit your taste, it's a matter of tastes, everyone has his own cup, but why not take a sip ?
Ergo Proxy follows a slow base, but also it gives you suspense, like "what the heck? whats gonna happen next?" after watching it twice so far i saw the pleasure of psychological anime, especially the characters, it shows the deepest sides of every character, and it also shows the darkest of 'em, how the characters evolve, how they discover deep inside themselves.
"who am i? or should i say what am i ?" is the frequent question that the plot is all about, setting on a journey, i can't say it's adventurous, but they set out to find out who they are,and whats the purpose of their existence.
overall, to sum it up, if you're the psychological, thriller and sci-fi fan and the patient type i highly recommend this for you, if you're the action-loving fan who looks for fast-base story line, this is not your thing.
