Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is the horror version of the film Groundhog Day.

The story of Higurashi is a bunch of different stories that focus around one event, the cotton drifting festival. The characters suffer from paranoia and they start going insane after the cotton drifting festival and after they brutally murder their friends the story starts back up where Keiichi Maebara has just moved to Hinamizawa. The scenes where the characters do go insane you don't know if the things they are seeing are real or are you watching it from their perspectives.

The animation in this show is pretty mediore. However it does use it to it's advantage. For example when the characters get suspicious their eyes become more cat-like. The animation also works when it comes to the death scenes.

I am usually all for dubbed anime, but in this case this is the only anime where I am going to say stay away from the dub. It is really bad. Just watch it subbed. The only noteworthy thing I have to say about the sound is that Higurashi's opening is incredible.

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni is a disturbing anime that is completely underrated. It has a very good concept and leaves the viewer questioning just what the fuck is going on. In addition to being entertaining I would personally recommend this show and its sequel to anybody.
