The female dominance gave the anime a new welcomed feeling. There was some thinking similar to Death Note, not anywhere close to the amount of Death Note. There was plenty of action and fighting etc...
The soundtrack is pretty "in with the crowd" and such. Like metal hard rock stuff, which made the characters seem really dominant.
Also, the "bad guys" that are supposed to lose or whatever. The directing/writing was good here. The enemies were made out to be really strong like all stories, but they didn't end up being the ultra poo after you learned more about them. The story kept revealing more secrets to the enemy that made it seem like it was impossible for the "good guys" to win. Which is definitely what a director wants.
