This is why I watch anime. These "one-shot" stories that, love them or hate them, leave you deep in thought by the time the credits roll. This review will probably be quite short, since this show could easily be ruined by spoilers. Before I do a breakdown, I want to get a few things out of the way. Firstly, I don't actually love Watanabes other works that much (Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo are the only ones I have checked out). The primary reason is that I really do prefer story focused shows, a la Steins;Gate or Anohana. So why do I bring this up? Well, Zankyou no Terror is the first Watanabe show I have seen which focused entirely on the main story, which is perhaps why it only has 11 episodes. Anyways, the main point here is this: if you watch anime for the story, you have to give this show a shot. Some aspects may turn you off (more on that later), but for me, this is the show of the summer. Without further ado, let's do a breakdown:

STORY (10/10): In all likelihood, this is where most people will disagree about the quality of the show. I can't go into much detail here, but the story is unlike anything else in anime that I have seen (yet). Most early episodes are divided into two pretty distinct segments; the investigation team (led by Shibazaki) and Sphinx. We can see very early on that not everything is as clean cut as it seems and the show did a great job of making me anxious over who I should be rooting for up until the very end. Without spoiling anything, this show will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. ** MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD: The ending may turn some people off, but I found it to be quite satisfying and closed off the main casts arc quite well. I certainly shed a manly tear or two. END OF SPOILERS**

ART (9/10): The animation in this show in quite unique. In particular, the details in eyes are mind-blowing, and it really helps to bring out the characters various personalities. Most backgrounds are detailed enough, I did not find myself getting too distracted by some shoddy animation here and there. I will say, there are a couple of scenes where it is blatantly obvious that an asset is not in the right spot. But like the story, I really feel like I have never seen animation like this before, and it really resonated with me.

SOUND (10/10): Honestly, I was not sure about the music in this show at first. It is extremely weird most of the time. It reminded me of the first time I heard the music in Persona 4 (I hated it...). But, after a few episodes, it really started to work for me. By the end, the music actually became one of the highlights of the series for me, I even went and bough the OST. I am not really a big fan of the OP though, but that's not because it is bad. I just did not find myself humming it after, which I can usually take as a sign that it did not work for me.

CHARACTER (8/10): Okay, so I was ready to give this a 10/10 up until around episode 7/8. I won't spoil anything, but some characters make questionable decisions. Most of these decisions are later elaborated on in a mostly satisfying manner, but one character in particular does something near the end of the series that was just... not well explained. This is spoiler free so I can't say who did what, but it just felt so out of place for the character. I digress, every other character is phenomenal, which is all the more amazing when you consider that this show only had 11 episodes. It just goes to show how good the character development was. My personal favorites are Shibazaki and Lisa.

ENJOYMENT (10/10): As I have said many times, this show keeps you at the very edge of your seat, and makes almost no blunders in terms of story progressing, art, and character development. I can easily say this was the show that I enjoyed the most this summer.

OVERALL (10/10): I not gonna repeat myself any more then I have already: do yourself a favor and watch this show even though you may or may not love it as much as I did. It's only 11 episodes, and I am sure people will be talking about this one for a while. If I can convince one person to watch this show, then I will be happy.
