The story is all right. It's pretty basic. The 3 students, Honoka, Umi and Kotori decides to form an idol group to save their school from being closed. Along the way they find more students joining eventually forming a group of 9 with the name "Muse". Along the way, they come over many hardships together and grabbing opportunities to save their school. But this anime is focused more on telling stories of each characters instead of focusing on a well constructed story. In that way, they did a good job. With each episodes, you get to see more character traits of the each members(especially in the second season). Also as you watch, you'll suddenly find your self looting for the group "Muse" and sympathizing with them on certain occasions.
The art is simply outstanding and beautiful.The 2D art is amazing. However, I didn't like the 3D. With 3D,they look emotionless and robotic.Don't worry though. The 3D is only found on the Live shows where Muse performs a song.I do feel that live could have done entirely on 3D. I would give a 10 for this one but 3D is holding it down. If there's an option, I'm giving 9.5.
This is a music related anime and I really enjoyed their insert songs to be honest. Quite catchy. Other than that, the opening and ending and the OST is very well done too. The OST is used very efficiently in different situations.Beautifully done on this one.
All 9 main characters in this anime has round character traits. You might think at first they are flat but like I said, more interesting traits are discovered throughout the episode. All 9 characters are very diverse in terms of personality and designs. Well done in terms of characters. The characters are also developed along the way(with this, you might want to continue with the 2nd season) so they are dynamic instead of staying static.
I really enjoyed watching it to be honest. The live can really ditch the 3D but i do not regret watching the series as a whole!. Non anime fans wouldn't enjoy this series though. I'll definitely be re watching it again if I have time after watching my to watch list!. Will purchase any DVDs or Blu rays if possible!. It was quite memorable considering that this anime had a very different feel than other animes that I have watched that focuses on action,adventure and suspenseful stories. Enjoyed it verymuch.
Overall, I'm giving it an 8. Really liked the art, sound and characters. The story was ok and 3D could have been not used(or at least amke them look like a living character) but an enjoyable series as a whole.
