The story is about a 16 year old girl named Ohana who is living uneasily with her mother. The mother gets a new boyfriend and decides to make Ohana travel hours away to stay at a mountain hot springs inn that is run by grandmother. Grandmother is cold to her, and so she must learn to work at the inn to earn her keep. It is tough and she is scolded a lot, and not liked by some of the staff, but her buoyant spirit slowly begins to change the place.
This series is just so endearing. The main characters are complex and develop over the course of the series. The plot is interesting and very well developed, with lots of fun drama in every episode -- but also stage setting for final dramatic outcomes at the end. The artwork, animation, voice acting, and cinematography were all outstanding as well. Lastly I can say that at the end of the series, I was left feeling bittersweet happiness for the characters, and the only sadness and regret is that it was over. Definitely a 10/10 masterpiece.
