Alright, where do i begin... In my opinion, the series was totally amazing. It left me with such a strong impression and influence that i haven't been able to sleep at night. Don't get it wrong, the series does have large amounts of gore, violence, nudity but that's absolutely no reason why i loved the series. I loved the series because it illustrates a real psychological factor and i truly felt it. As a 20 year old, the nudity or gore didn't bother me at all, but it might be too much for younger kids.

The story is about Lucy, a 2 horned "mutant" which has been treated cruel all her life and wants to destroy everything, partially because it's her DNA to destroy humans and partially because she was bullied. If we compare and contrast it, thats REAL LIFE! Tons of kids out there are being bullied, abused and leading sad lives. We have wars, murders, robbery. We are just as self-destructive and murderous like Lucy!. This world isn't peaceful at all but at the same time, there's so many beautiful things that is worth enduring for.

The story itself made me think about my life and other peoples life. I too, have felt like an outcast for many years. I've been sick most of my teenage life and wasn't able to go out at all in 4 years. Sure compared to Lucy's character, my situation is rubbish.... but i still am able to make a connection with her life.

I think anyone who understands sadness, empathy, regret, sorrow and working hard to reach your dreams will love this series.

On the downside, there are a "few" plot holes. They're not major, but these plot holes leave the reader asking "why this", "why that". Some things are not explained in neither the anime nor the manga and leaves it to the readers' imagination.

[SPOILERS]
I hate to write spoilers but this has to be done. This is the only thing that i REALLY DISLIKED about the series.

The ending... i was TOTALLY unsatisfied. Both of the endings held the same meaning, that there was NO way for Lucy to co-exist with humans UNLESS she lost her diclonius roots. That message is basically saying that Lucy was DESTINED to destroy humanity and there was nothing she could do to change it. I don't agree with anybody having a destiny. I think we can all make our own destinies if we try and work hard enough.

Lucy failed and gave up. I totally wanted to see an ending where Lucy was able to control her demons and "make" her own destiny but it didn't happen, she lost.

So is the message portrayed saying some of us have destinies that we can't change? Are we to suffer and die? As much cliche as it sounds, i woulda preferred a message like "naruto" where you must never give up and you will reach the impossible. In naruto's case, being a hokage and in Lucy's case being able to co-exist. If Naruto was to be killed off right now without reaching his goal, most of the audience would be very pissed. Thats totally not the right message. Thats how i felt when they killed off Lucy, it shouldn't have happened! But i guess this is a very sad and tragic anime.

I'd love to see a remake of the ending.
