Story-9
The story isn't really anything new or creative, granted it isn't something that it seen everyday. For the most part however, you could see what would happen each time, but that doesn't stop it from being enjoyable. While the story, (at least in my opinion) is very well done, it isn't quite the part that stands out most for me.
Art-9
If you have just picked up more recent and pretty looking anime, the art may not look all that appealing to you, but even if thats the case, the art style will grow on you. I think that this style especially was very well chosen for this anime. Just like it the art isn't too serious, but doesn't quite give the feeling of a more comedic show. Not too many harsh lines, and while I am no expert on this, I found the art to be well done.
Sound-8
I am very bad at analyzing sound, I can't tell a good song from a bad one. I can't even tell if notes are out of place. Really, if you want an in-depth review of the sound, I advise you read another review.
Character-10
I found that the characters were really what stood out to me. This story does have a time lapse so there is quite a bit of change in terms of characters right there. Also however, during the story the characters slowing change. Especially the relationships that characters would have with each other. This show had 50 episodes to stretch that over, which I personally enjoyed. The changes were gradual and seemingly quite natural. I also feel that Cross Game went into other characters lives besides the main character's, something I feel that many anime fail to do. This adds much more depth to the story, and overall just makes it more enjoyable.

The reason I picked this anime up was not actually for the sports, but rather for the characters. Because of this I personally enjoyed this show very much.

Just saying, this show isn't for everyone, no anime is. However, if you want an anime about baseball, or maybe just want an interesting show with a bit of romance, then this show would be a good one to watch.
