I'm sorry in advance if this review isn't necessarily in standard format, but it's hard for me to compartmentalize like that, but this show surprised me so I thought it needed a review.
Kamigami no Asobi is not quite what it seems and certainly not what the synopsis implies. I came into this show expecting a mindless otome adaptation type show with a bit of mythology thrown in. Fun, but no big deal right? I got so much more than I bargained for. This show had me literally laughing out loud every week. No matter what your sense of humor their is most likely at least one character who shares it. Which is a lovely segway to my next point, characters. Yes, it is a reverse harem and as such follows plenty of character tropes, BUT every character is well developed, almost every character has a backstory (usually touching), and they were all just so lovable! The characters were the shining point of this show. This, in a happy turn of events, does not exclude the heroine. I think anyone familiar with this genre realizes what a refreshing change this is. Yui speaks, thinks, cares for people, and does not seem to be compelled to be a doormat. The art and music were both fantastic but don't really need reviewing.
Final warnings: 1) when it says teach them (the gods) about love and the human heart it's not what you think. This is referring to humanity, not romance 2) it is a reverse harem, don't go into this expecting it to be otherwise 3) there are feels. They caught me off guard so I had to earn you. Prepare yourself for serious feels near the end.
