Mixed Feelings

Today I will be giving a short review on: Kyoukai no Kanata; Beyond the Boundary.
"A Slice-Of-Life series with a bit of Dark Fantasy mixed in between here and there"
A genre that could either be a hit or a miss, read on to see what I have to say...

......

Story:
The story was choppy and I lost interest in the plot about half way into the anime, by the end it did not get better. There were many questions left unanswered and reasons left unexplained of the setting/world/characters/basically EVERYTHING of this series. To make matters worse they added filler episodes in a 13 episode anime, bad move Kyoani. Thank god the animation and music made up for the shitty story.

Art:
Like I stated before the animation (and music) made up for the piece of crap story line. It was beautiful, most of every scene was animated genius, especially the action scenes which made you think the show was spectacular! (even though it wasn't). Every frame was flawless throughout the series, even if at some points it was less than standard, you wouldn't even notice b/c you had to keep up with the horrible storyline!

Sound:
As I stated before, the music (and animation) made up for the story and characters. The sound track for the series was spot on, each sound corresponding perfectly with each and every frame. Though sometimes the music and mood didn't fit well together (dark music with cutesy/peppy animation isn't a good combo in my opinion) the plot would sky rocket a corner and you wouldn't even care b/c you had to stick with the story. I especially thought that the opening and ending to this series was gorgeous, in both animation and music, but also gave me a false hope that the anime was going to turn out to be the next Madoka Magica (but in the end they were alike in a way, both had a plot that no one expected)

Characters:
The characters in the series were basically cute designs filtered from other works of Kyoani jam packed with a weird one trick pony personality. The main characters weren't interesting, lacked informative back stories, and left many of us wondering if they were even important in the anime, such as the minor characters. Mirai was a sorry excuse for a protagonist, Akhito was a megane obsessed weirdo who added the worst type of romance I've seen in a slice of life feature, and who even cares about Hiroomi and Mitsuki. To put it short, *fart noise*.

Enjoyment:
I had three reasons on why I enjoyed this anime.
1) Animation was boss.
2) Music was boss.
3) Action was boss. (weapons were unique and different, same as the combat)

Overall:
In summary I would have to say that Kyoukai no Kanata was quite the adventure, same level of fun I would have if I was in Battle Royal. Interesting as a sack of potatoes, Characters I could identify with if my name was Mary Sue, and a story that made me question everything in the series!! Literally the only thing that kept me going through this death ride was the pretty animation and music, which makes me feel like shit b/c I'm known for watching series with good stories that interest me. Beyond the Boundary did not interest me in the slightest bit, it left no traces on me, nothing of importance, this was an overrated anime that I hope I can forget about as soon as social media stops gushing over it's "INDIVIDUALITY AS AN ANIME". I would not recommend anyone to watch this unless they have absolutely nothing to do, or if they want to hear/see something pretty.

x.
