Clannad (Anime) add (All reviews)
May 12, 2014
Now, this is a review taking both Clannad and Clannad Afterstory into consideration.

First of all, I don't even know where to start. I mean, this whole anime was a masterpiece, probably the best I will ever watch. But let's start....

Story:
The start of Clannad itself is unique, not some girl with powers falling from the sky or some sort of fated reunion with a fiance. Throughout the whole series, the simple enjoyment of watching the slice of life theme unfold and observing the achievements of the characters over two seasons was a outstanding experience, with a arc for ever character making us somewhat knowledgeable of the characters and what makes them likable. The reason it is not a 10/10 is because if I remember correctly, the Fujibayashi twins, never really had a say or arc with out protagonist, Tomoya, although there was a one episode alternate ending after Afterstory ended. But overall, enjoyable and smooth story.

Art:
The art is outstanding. Enough said. The background drawing and relating colors to the scene really brings out the feelings and is what thickens our attraction to the anime itself. However, like other reviews said, the 'moe' style of drawing isn't as appealing for a touching story, which I agree but won't critique too much since it has been Key's way of animating probably since Kanon and/or Air.

Sound:
The sound is very fitting to the scenes they are in. The Clannad soundtrack is very heartwarming, the simple tune of Dango Daikazoku and The Palm of a Little Hand are at times happy yet for the most part, they are played out so well that you can't help but try to hold back the tears. Not a 10/10 because the opening and especially the ending song for Clannad Afterstory really kills the mood when you are trying to process the sadness played out that episode.

Character:
Overall, the characters are nice; all have a background and personal arc. However, like a said, the Fujibayashi twins never got a arc. At times, the 'moe' style really doesn't emphasize certain emotions at times when needed.

Enjoyment:
Really enjoyable, you will probably enjoy it. One of the best. 'Nuff said

Overall: 9/10
