If you or someone you know has never seen anime before, this would certainly be my first recommendation. This show would immerse you so deep in the characters lives and story that you will not know what to do with your own life after you finish watching all the episodes. I recommend this to people new to anime because the traditions and life styles portrayed in this show are for the most part very western, however the art and certain gestures are very Japanese. For someone who is not used to Japanese symbolism's this show will be very easy to watch and understand.

If you are someone who has seen many amines and have not yet seen this one, what's the matter with you?! The story and characters in this anime are guaranteed to make even the most stone cold emotionless people feel some sort of sadness (I speak from experience.)

This is really one of those anime's that are top notch and truly deserve a 10/10 score.

ADDITIONAL NOTE:

I've seen this anime in both English dub and Japanese dub+English subtitles; I've seen them both separately and at the exact same time side by side. Unless you understand Japanese better than English, I strongly recommend the English dub. The voice acting cast for the English dub is superb and the subtitles don't do the show enough justice.
