Elfen Lied does not fit to categories. Though the show itself uses a lot of typical categories (abused girl, betrayal, love, hate, revenge, desire for power), the mixture which Elfen Lied offers cannot be labelled easily. But what it does, it delivers emotions and it has depth. Who are the monsters and who are the villains? Can you forgive horrible sins of Lucy when you see what/who brought her to such a track?

Characters offer interesting contrasts, their personality is shaped in believable way through their life experience. Exaggerated behaviour works well as a narrative tool highlighting the differences between characters gives strength to the story line.

Ok, I confess, I fell in love with Lucy/Nyu. She's horrible person, but there's a lot of things wrong in her life and she's a product of her experience. It's like Axel Sandermose's Fugitive Crosses His Tracks. But when confronted with Kohta's affection and forgiveness, she is a different person.

Regarding the soundtrack, oh I adore it. And now, excuse me, I am going to watch it again, sob and whine like a girl.
