FLCL (Anime) add (All reviews)
Apr 14, 2014
note: spoiler-free, so it's safe to read.

FLCL is an anime filled with sheer insanety, jokes of sexual content and plain weirdness that will make you go WTF, guaranteed. but between all of this... i don't know what, lies an anime that is surprisingly good. I happened to come across on a top 5 of weirdest anime on smosh.com, that says enough. However, forget all of these judgements, put your brain to 0 and just watch, then rejudge.

STORY 7/10
yea... story... some say it doesn't have a story. Others say it's kind of like a sheakspeare piece or something close to that. I'm more in between. i agree, you need to watch it more than once to find some sort of story, which may or may not be true. The fun thing is, the anime is very open for interpretation. I haven't found a story myself yet, but i have some sort of idea, but i'm not gonna spoil anything. I leave it to you when it comes to this. Also, one more thing: the writers of Furi Kuri where very heavy on LSD, most likely combined with some Ludes.

ART 8/10
The art style of FLCL is very random and different almost every scene. It's goes which cheap & basic to mayor investment 3D-styled scenes. It's something rather special and usually when anime do this, it takes down some quality. In FLCL however, it fits with it's own insanity.

SOUND 6/10
Overall, FLCL doesn't have much background music, however, most of the music findable are the rather enjoyable hard rock tunes of a band called 'The Pillows', who probably made their debute with this. The music doens't overpower the anime, nor does it add up for a big part. It just... nicely blends in with the background.

CHARACTERS 8/10
In this anime, you have several characters who are, all in their way, a digit to the outcome that is Furi Kuri, with some exceptions. You have, as a main cast:
Naota - A 12 year old boy, who tries to act mature while still in puberty. His childhood hero was his brother who left him behind in Japan to play baseball (yes BASEBALL) in the USA. His life is very normal and boring, he's very picky on drinks and has very mixed fellings coming to love and relationships. HOWEVER, his life turns upside down, thanks to something pink-haired with a vespa and a guitar
Mamimi - The 17 year old homeless ex girlfriend from Naota's brother, who seems as a bit an emo to me. She also seems very confused about her relation between her and Naota as well as between her and her brother, as she names Naota with the nickname she had for his brother. She seems to be the most normal in the main cast, but has her own demons to fight with.
Haruhara Haruko - the pink haired alien with a vespa and a chainsaw- bass guitar. She is definetly the main source of insanity in Furi Kuri. she is crazy, she's rather perverted and has an easy personality switch. She switches very easy between your lover and your worst enemy. And yes, your worst, as she's unpredictable and insane. Though she seems to have a plan in the anime, it's still a bit unclear what it exacly is.

ENJOYMENT 9/10
When i read about this anime, i didn't know what to expect, except for insanity and weirdness. I though it would be a low budget, short & bad quality anime. I was very wrong. I really enjoyed this anime, but it's something you must enjoy. It's not to everyone's taste, definetly NOT. Still, there's a certain level of thoughts you need to put your brain on before really enjoying this. it's not 0, but somewhere between 38 & 35.24954541.

OVERALL 8/10
I'm giving this anime the 8 it deserves (it's actually a 7.6, but i cant enter that in this score system) This anime is purely comedial ment and doesn't really have a deep message. It's purely enjoyment, and that's what you have to do while watching. Just enjoy and don't ask any questions
