Hajime no ippo will change your view about boxing. This is the perfect example to prove sports anime can be very good and exciting.

It is basically about a boy that wanted to know what it means to be strong. So decided to start boxing to get his answer. From here his career as pro boxer starts. I don't think that further details are needed. This serie lets you see that boxing isn't just beating eachother, they see it more as training to accomplish their goal.

The first episodes are good but the serie really starts for me when volg comes in (think it is around episode 40). Here the anime get's a level up. From here the serie becomes very good and jumped directly in my top 10 without hesitation.

What I really liked about Hajime no ippo is the enjoyment. I found every match from the first to the last very exciting and original. The way they let you see how technical boxing can get, the way everything is explained from the point of view of the boxers, the way how they develop their opponents, the fact that you see the positive side of most of the opponents to (not just a enemy that is bad and need to be defeated). Of course there are some players who are just bad but even these are well developed. And the comedy in this serie is something that cannot be ignored. If you can laugh with a bit perverted jokes. I can assure you takamura will be your character. All this makes every episode very exciting and fun to watch.

So if you like an anime with good fights and want to laugh your ass off. This might be anime for you :).
