True, Kill la Kill is best enjoyed if you turn your mind off. This is not to imply it is a mindless show, but that it's more enjoyable if you laugh instead of gripe at all the plot holes, "fanservice," and over-the-top-ness that make up Kill la Kill.
I had a blast watching it both alone and with friends who don't mind if most of the characters bare most of their bodies most of the time.
The music (for the first half of the show, at least) integrates itself extremely well into the mood of each scene, not only complimenting the tone of the show but amplifying it. However, in later episodes, the show tries to switch from futuristic synthesizers to heavy guitar riffs and it doesn't really match. This happens minimally, but it IS noticeable, and detracted from my enjoyment of the show, even if only slightly.
The art direction is unique. I don't really have much more to say other than the only time the animation is "bad" is when it's supposed to be.
The story is nothing special, but my god are there a lot of twists.
The characters are solid. By that I mean that they aren't all over the place, and that it wouldn't make sense for another character to do the things that they would do. The characters aren't compelling or anything like that, but they are relatively consistent. I'm sure that if you tried, you'd be able to pick apart my argument, though.
Overall, I'll fondly remember Kill la Kill as a lot of fun, action, plot twists, and jiggly bits. While it's not the BEST anime out there, it's worth checking out. It has is tense, serious moments, and it has its goofy, lighthearted ones. But through what Kill la Kill is and isn't, I'll remember it as a classic.
