Kyoukai no Kanata is a Fall 2013 series from Kyoto Animation which is about the half-demon Kanbara Akihito who is a self-proclaimed immortal.

One day on his way from school, he spots a girl on the school roof named Kuriyama Mirai who he thinks is aiming to jump to take her life. Rushing up to stop her, he reveals his attraction to glasses and finds out that Kuriyama is actually a Demon Hunter in training who upon finding out Akihito is immortal chooses him as a training target and "kills" him repeatedly.

The series plays out following Akihito and Mirais daily lives and their struggles with demons, friendship, rent and whatever it may be. It all leads up to the meeting with the powerful demon "Kyoukai no Kanata".

The art and animation are terrific, as expected from a KyoAni piece of work. When looking, one can spot some parts where the animation goes downhill a bit, but they make up for it with general excellent animation and the art style is very loveable so high praises for that.

In the OST, there is nothing that especially sticks but they're all pretty average pieces of work.

The idol song in the anime, Yakusoku no Kizuna, is pretty decent and the performance is great, but generally I feel like it's not good enough to deserve a lot of praise, though I guess on the flip side it's not worthy of complaint either.

The opening is sung by Chihara Minori, who does a great job with the opening turning it into a good and memorable one, however not good enough for "Kyoukai no Kanata" (the song's name) to warrant a top spot in my top openings list.

The most noteworthy entry among the sound is the ending known as "Daisy", sung by Stereo Dive Foundation which is an amazing piece of work both sound-wise and animation-wise. This sticks to your head and stays for quite a while, so kudos for a great song.

The supporting cast in Kyoukai no Kanata is nothing special so I won't talk about them however the main cast is somewhat interesting.

Kanbara Akihito: The blonde main character who is a half-demon and an immortal, he is a self-proclaimed glasses lover and loves the way Kuriyama Mirai looks with her glasses and states so several times during the show, he's generally a really nice guy trying to help Mirai get contacts, friends and money too live on her own in the town.
He spends a lot of time in the literature club with the Nase siblings but during the periods of time demons are active he becomes a bit unstable and causes trouble for everyone.

Kuriyama Mirai: The glasses wearing heroine of the show, who, for various reasons, has to depend on Akihito for help to get herself going as a Demon Hunter, and as with any other KyoAnimation series, she starts developing feelings for our... pervert(?) main character during the course of the series.
She might look fragile and weak but she's not to be taken lightly as she's mentally very strong and physically quite agile. She has a thing for bonzais and is a bit skeptical towards most things but opens up as a really warm personality.

Nase Mitsuki: Mitsuki at first seems like a true kuudere, but as the series develops the black haired beauty turns into a person who worries deeply for all her friends and ignores family tradition and rules for them. As the leader of the litterature club, she also comes to befriend Akihito and is a friend of his at the very start of the series.
Mitsuki has a very successful big sister and an overprotective big brother and is seen as the "cute kid" of the family, which she has come to hate but live with.

Nase Hiromi: Hiromi is a real fun character who does things like touch and hold Akihito by the waist to openly admit his love for his little sister Mitsuki as he is a large siscon.
At first glance, Hiromi seems like a light hearted comic relief character but if the situation requires, he turns from an embarassing big brother to a badass who knows exactly what he must do and as such is very dependable.
He is a very good friend of Akihito and comes to like the pairing of Mirai and Akihito and helps them out in whatever way he can as long as it does not hurt his precious little sister.
As the middle child of the powerful Nase family he knows a lot of the familys secrets but far from all.

The enjoyment of Kyoukai no Kanata was quite high in my own opinion where as simple things such as a confession from Hiromi to taking down a certain... "smelly" demon were very enjoyable. The main storyline was also quite intriguing and the main cast supplemented each other in such a way that it was great too watch.

Sadly, the ending is paramount in my opinion and Kyoukai no Kanata's ending only made questions rise and gave no explanation and quite honestly was a sorry attempt at a happy ending.
