The tatami galaxy is about "Watashi" and his various adventures throughout collage as he explore various circles in collage.saying that may be a bit misleading since after every episode it rest to the beginning of his first day of collage to select from his many choices of clubs.When ever there's a rest certain variable remain constant throughout the anime like meeting x or y.
You would imagine this would get some what repetitious but this is mostly prevented by the introduction of new character or the execution of another. The series even throw me for a loop when I thought out that I
had the story completely figured that being a romance with akashi a first year with an strong will and icy cold stare but has one unexpected trait about her that allow our protagonist to become a friend of hers.The most interesting part of "tatami galaxy" was seeing how incredibly different thing were for every loop the protagonist experienced. Along with the different things we'd learn about our supporting cast's like hobbies or personal relationships.
Art
The look is cartoony and lacks a lot of detail in the character designs but this is more of a plus since it allow the animator to draw imagery which is silly,bizarre,or abstract. This reminded me of how Shaft does there anime. this anime also has a special way with colors were the character will be presented in a moody gray but has a bright colors all within the background. It really grabs your attention in the way other anime don't.
animation
madhouse animated and its very different from what I'd expect from them. They usually make series with highly detailed characters and fast moving action scenes.In this anime the characters move in a cartoony and smooth fashion with a more squishy looking characters than the more sharp looking ones we usually see.
Sound
I'm not a music expert but I can say that the music meld perfectly well with whatever scene was being presented. Along with that I can say I didn't skip listening to the intro once .
characters
"Watashi"- seems to be your average guy who is a bit socially inept.So he wants a rose colored collage life along filled with a raven haired beauty for a girlfriend. He mostly believes that joining a circle will accomplish this ,but always end's up wasting one year of his life he seems to be somewhat of a hopeless individual who isn't content with life.Watashi was naive in thinking any club would help him achieve his dream.But the crazy amount of effort he puts in accomplishing his goal along with his internal monologue about the situation happening around made him a very likable character
Ozu- my favorite character whom is the best friend/worst enemy of our main character. he has a devilish demeanor and always seems to be plotting something. to the point were he always making our protagonist the victim of his cruel jokes that ruined our heroes life. The character basically did whatever he wants.
This also is one of the few anime where I found myself liking every character. Even ones who debuted more antagonistic.
Enjoyment
Theirs not much to say besides I really liked it. The show also has a great sense of humor which had me laughing or smiling on several occasions. Great character's with a shocking good ending which left me fulfilled with what I but left me wanting a bit. The only criticism I can give is that it is repetitive to the point you know what happening next.
Overall
I Recommend this to anyone wanting something different. The only thing hold this back from being absolutely perfect is how repetitious it is. Overall this show is amazing.
