Preliminary (9/10 eps)
In the world of anime there are many anime that are either intellectually provoking or plain goofy. Hellsing Ultimate falls in the latter. This anime is not meant for thought nor is it meant for those who are looking for something “deep”. This is meant for those who enjoy plain old testosterone pumped goodness! For those who are looking for actual thought, this isn’t the anime for you. If you wish to enter the world of Hellsing Ultimate, please turn off your brains.

Story- The story is essentially a game of Nazi Zombies, a bunch of Nazis come to London lead by some crazy Major who orgasms from the thought of war. The Hellsing Organization has to defend London from the Nazis with the main defense being Alucard, the main protagonist and Seras, his female vampire assistant. Also the Catholic Church acts a third party voice who intervenes in the Nazi invasion. This leads to an all-out brawl between all sides leading in all deliciousness. The story is simple enough and doesn’t offer anything new and is pretty generic but it is pulled off quite well as the gore and savagery gets across quite well.

Art- The art is absolutely amazing, with fluid animation and dark colors that fit the tone of the show, much better than the abominable original Hellsing TV series but that’s a whole other story. The series frequently employs a lens flare effect, basically glass reflecting light. This is commonly used on those with glasses (such as Integra Hellsing) and it does get a bit old after a while but not too much of an annoyance. Alucard’s powers also look a bit odd with black spots in his blood.

Sound- I haven’t personally listened to the openings and endings of the series but I have listened to music that plays during battles and such which were pretty well done. It definitely fits the mood of the series. Also, the English dub is utterly fantastic, while it maybe not be on par with the Japanese voice actors, Crispin Freeman as Alucard delivers a absolutely titillating performance as he screams and relishes the blood of his slain foes. Ralph Lister shows a strong performance as the gentleman butler Walter Dornez of the Hellsing Organization. Finally, B. Blanc as Enrico Maxwell and Steven Brand as Father Anderson also do fantastic jobs. Fans of good dubs should definitely take advantage of the opportunity and watch this in dubbed format.

Character- Everyone is a fucking badass. That is all this reviewer has to state about the characters. Whether they be Nazi officers or mercenaries they are all completely badass. There is background about certain characters but they are quickly shoved aside with the exceptions of Maxwell, Alucard, and Seras. The winners of the badass awards have to Alucard (of course), Anderson (a close second winner), and Walter (almost makes it but unfortunately his badass screen time is cut short).

Enjoyment- To describe the reviewer’s enjoyment of this series is incompatible with text format. While the story and characters aren’t anything special, the badass characters and slick animation makes this anime truly shine as the epitome of action anime excellence.
