Similar to how Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood take very differing paths, Hellsing and the collection of Hellsing Ultimate OVAs are vastly different in story, quality and character development.

Hellsing Ultimate is everything that I wanted the original show to be; fast-paced, visceral, epic, graphically stunning, and most of all, satisfying. The original show had an interesting concept and awesome characters, but by the end, I was hardly satiated, my thirst for grisly and grotesque bloodshed hardly quenched. However, Hellsing Ultimate took straight from the manga (as all anime should) and was thoroughly enjoyable.

Overall, the best part of the show is just the pure destructiveness and duality of the almost immortal Nosferatu Alucard, the No-Life King. One of the coolest character studies I have experienced, it is very dark and enjoyable to fantasized over the life of a vampire, an undead fiend capable of catastrophic damage and mayhem. Many times during the show did I wonder what I would do if I were a vampire (most of which were not very heroic).

Additionally, I found the main antagonists to the show awesome, with several awesome battles. At the end of the day, I felt extremely satisfied and just happy that this awesome idea was given more justice in a clearly superior and more fleshed out world than its predecessor.
