Berserk is one of those classic anime series that I was told was very good. It took me a while, but I finally decided to check it out and see for myself. From the first couple of episodes, I was intrigued by the setup of the story being set in medieval times.

Story: 9
The story of Berserk is one of the best that I have seen in anime in a long time. It revolves around a lone soldier named Guts who joins up with a group of warriors called the Band of the Hawks in order to reclaim their kingdom. That's the short version as their is a lot more to it than that with conflicts not only with enemies, but also between the different characters.

The animation is nothing special, in fact it's pretty forgettable. While it is from the 90's, there are other anime titles that came out around the same time that looks much more impressive.

Sound: 7
The music is pretty good. It fits with the overall tone of the series and does a good job at it. I only watched the show in English and it wasn't that bad, though it's not something that's going to win you over if your a sub watcher.

Character: 8
The characters are very well written, particularly the main cast. Both Guts and Griffith compliment each other well with their interactions and the development between the characters grows over the course of the series.

Enjoyment: 7
This show is a great example of writing not only an epic tale, but also a tragedy. It could've been nearly perfect if it wasn't for one major flaw, the ending. In my opinion, this is one of the worst endings ever. I don't want to spoil anything to people who haven't seen the show, but if you ever do decide to watch it, be warned because it takes you for a loop. Despite that though, it definitely was worth watching.

Overall: 8
It's not everyday an anime comes along that's set in medieval times that has a mature story to it. Despite the ending, this is something that should not be missed, so if you happen to find it at your local store or at an online retailer, pick it up, you won't be disappointed. Hope you enjoyed my review and take care.
