I'm not the biggest fan of science fiction nor mecha anime and hence I wasn't too keen on watching it in the first place. However, this was based on my first impression when I looked at the cover art. I decided to watch it solely based on the art which I assumed was going to be very good.

It was indeed. I was pleased to discover that not only was the art pleasing, the plot had me hooked instantly ! Each of the first few episodes raised unanswered questions at the end. The first episode is easily one of the best I've seen in a while. The characters, especially the main ones, develop and progress at a fair pacing and this, I assume, retained its viewers initially. However, the anime fails to keep this consistency throughout its course and I could almost predict the plot for the following episode as I moved onto the latter half of the anime. I carried on solely because I was curious to see how the characters further developed and the art style which brings me to some aspects that redeem this anime's worth.

The art style of this anime was very pleasing. The anime showed the contrast between two habitats on earth through excellent use of colour tones, lights and sound. Character development was also very good. As circumstances changed, it was interesting to see how the characters' views changed accordingly. A very strong and relevant moral question is raised and I, as a viewer, kept comparing what I would do with what the protagonist does. This itself made the anime very engaging right towards the end of the anime.

Overall I would undoubtedly recommend this anime to anyone who is in the same boat as I was when I was about to watch it. Suisei no Gargantia offers more reasons in favour of watching it than otherwise.
