Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (1/12 eps)
At the moment I've only finished the first episode, so this is not a final or complete review and I can't legitimately give a rating (I'll hold it on a 6 for now), but I wanted to share my thoughts.

Let me start by saying H.s.O.t.D. has a good zombie story foundation, and separately, the ecchi elements are nice. However, the way they've been mixed was extremely off-putting and bothersome. I have definite interests in psychological horror/thriller and apocalyptic works, and physical training/fighting/martial arts, so my focus was almost immediately drawn to that aspect of the show despite going in with the mindset of this being an intensely ecchi anime. And so I found I really couldn't stand the now-absurd fanservice. When something like this is half-and-half, not only is its focus split, but each side is rarely as good as it would be had it been dedicated.

That brings me to the zombie apocalypse side. The chaos and emotion of such a scenario was handled realistically, and there was an intriguing human-nature concept (message?) in how some characters acted/reacted; points for that. I found certain other aspects sadly stereotypical or even 'corny', though.

The most important point I have is that, in short, I'm more than a little bothered by the execution of the show, and maybe even disappointed. The idea tried to take cheese and chocolate and throw them in a blender; they're both great things but don't quite work out too well together.
