Buyuden and Hajime no Ippo tells the story of a character who takes up a passion for boxing. Their journey is rough as they encounter powerful rivals. At the same time, we get to see exactly the type of person they are both in and out the ring. Relationship building is also fairly important in both series. Every chapter puts some emphasis on this to highlight character personalities. There is a bit of romance present in both series as well forged by these relationship dynamics. And because both series revolves around boxing, expect a good dose amount of action inside the right with precise realism.
In a creative sense they're the same. But buyuden is more a kid trying to find a goal in boxing. In Ippo it's about reaching new limits and technical points of boxing. Both are worth the read.
