Both shows exhibit this same gentle tone of a mix of silly comedic moments but a lot of heart tugging dramatic moments. Both shows feature a main girl with a sunny personality who is able to pull characters from their lowest points in their emotions just by showing she cares. Both shows feature characters from troubled families with an over bearing cold family head, in Fruits Basket you have the Soma family lead by Akito and in Taisho Otome you have Shima family lead by their cold distant father.

Fluffy anime with a unique shoujo-esque art style. Main character presents herself as a little ball of sunshine and almost a bit ditzy, but is wise for her age. Main Male Lead has a troubled, ostracized family background, but is actually fairly socialable when they learn to show their feelings. Main character with her bubbly self unconsciously helps solve life-long personal problems with her optimism and extra work. Both shows are a blast to the past with innocent romance--it's the 2004 shoujo we never knew we needed. Diabetes, but easy to watch even though it has darker/more mature elements.

both had poor girls moving in with a rich man or men as a housekeeper although Maiden Fairytale she an arranged bride
both girls cheery if not clumsy (especial with fruits basket) personality help the trouble male MC or MCs one dealing with a disable (because of car wreck) and near disownment by family because of disable and the other the MCs are cursed to transform into animals if they become to sick, stress or hugged by a member of the opposite sex
A truly kind main female character helps the main male/love interest through his trauma. She also helps people around her and gives the viewer actual hope in humanity.
