There is something to the damsel in distress for romance horror, and yet when watching this type of series, one doesn't want a complete damsel in distress, but instead a well rounded character allowing the viewer to grow attached. Many times the reason for being a damsel in distress comes from odds outside of the female protagonists scope, yet they grow and find where their strengths lie, thus leading to a compelling story arc.

Goomy atmosphere in both. Both include super natural beings and life or death situations. One of the main characters uses a gun (Zero and Shito). Both involve a girl being torn between two guys.
These anime are similar because, for starters, they both have fantasy like storylines. (Vampire knight tells about the evening class of vampires, and zombie-loan tells about a company called zombie loan that offers zombies their lives if they send other zombies back 'home' ). Both anime's have Female main characters that have a special quality. Each have a special quality that has you wanting more!
