They're not really THAT similar... but they're alike cause they're both creepy horror-type Anime... and they both have repetition.... and a bunch of stories in one Anime.... Higurashi's definitely the scarier of the two in my opinion... but only cause Jigoku Shoujo doesn't have as much gore... and they both have 2 seasons and a third coming out this year ^___^

Jigoku Shoujo and Higurashi are quite similar to the fact that both involve death, as Emma Ai is similar to Oyashiro-sama by 'dealing' with those who have sinned

Both these animes are dark and really focus on the darkness of humanity, and for people like me, thats freaking hilarious. People killing each other over reasons of miniscule importance, fighting over things that may or may not be real... A truly dark beauty.

Jigoku Shoujo and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni share quite some similarities. Both series deal with the supernatural like spirit, demon, and hell. They go into dept about the psychology of human and the kind of thing they are willing to do to reach their goal.

in terms of girls being the center of ones destruction, might be a far stretch, but still both worth seeing if you enjoyed one

-Both are a terror/gore hystories -Both are centred on mini-histories in each episode (or in each saga on higurashi) -Both have no sense until you see the full show

- The mood in both of these is fairly dark. - The Style of Storytelling is the same. - Both seem to have a mystical and spiritual influence to the story, and a 'curse'. - Both have excellent scripts, pacing, development, and execution. - Both focus on the evil that houses in every human. Higurashi has more of a story though, while Jigoku shoujo is more episodic.

Both anime have a lot of mini-stories that are solved in a few episodes. You can feel the climate of bitterness, gore, horror and sometimes scary in both. Both have a lot of blood and killing. Many of the characters is also alike.
