Ah, Nichijou. What an interesting beast you are. Nichijou translates to english as "My Ordinary Life". However, there is nothing ordinary about this anime. You have talking cats, 10 year old professors, dog bites that make lasers, and everything in between.
Story:
The story of Nichijou is standard. You have three high school girls that go to high school and do wacky things that attract the attention of absolutely no one. It's pretty much a moe comedy, except without the moe and amp up the comedy by about 9058340958 notches. 8/10.
Art:
Nichijou was animated by Kyoto Animation. They've done a HECK of a lot of stuff, but they're
...
most notable works are Clannad, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and K-On. So how do they go from K-On to Nichijou? Well it's simple really. There is no reason. Anyway, the art in Nichijou is stylized. It reminded me of a children's cartoon, how it looked very pastel-ish. It had some awesome "action" scenes (look up Principal Vs. Deer - Nichijou on youtube), and every single frame is filled with imagination and vibrance. 9/10.
Sound:
The OST in this anime is bland. None of the songs stuck out to me, it was all overshadowed by the animation. Besides the two openings, which are some of the greatest things ever. They're ridiculously catchy and fit Nichijou perfectly. 8/10
Character:
Since this is a comedy, there isn't much character development outside of the last two episodes and some sprinkled in the previous ones to that. The characters, from start to finish, are interesting and have their own special quirk that makes them stick out. Mai has to be one of the greatest characters in anime, with Sakamoto not far behind. 7/10
Comedy:
I'm going to tie this in with enjoyment, and I'll be damned if I can find a funnier than this. Every type of humor is in this, so there's not something you won't like. Besides if you're one of the people who like everything straighter than a pencil, in which case you will hate this anime. 10/10.
Final Verdict:
Nichijou is one of the greatest anime of all time. It's funny, it's charming, the art is great, and nothing about it is bad. This is a must see for any fan of comedies or Kyoto Animation. 9/10.

Durarara!! is an interesting anime. It's an anime that is one of it's kind, besides Baccano!. With an odd fish that is swimming in a sea of moe and eechi, how does Durarara!! hold up?
Story:
The storytelling in Durarara, or DRRR, is very interesting. Rather than having a big overarching plot told in each episode, it focuses on the story and development of one specific character. And some scenes in one episode could happen in another episode and affect the story of that episode. It's a very unique way of telling the story and I really enjoy it. Some people say that the story-telling in the
...
2nd half didn't match the first half's standards, but the only bad thing about the 2nd half was the plot twist involving the character Anri. If that wasn't there, the story would probably get a 10. 8/10
Art:
Drrr was produced by Brains Base, who haven't done much besides this, Baccano, and Spice and Wolf II. The art is very good, every frame is detailed, the animation is fluid, and the fight scenes are very entertaining to watch. I think I even saw some gradient lighting in the scenes where they were in warehouses, which I love. However, the budget seemed to drop as the series went on. There's nothing very noticeable, but it still could have been better. 8/10
Sound:
The sound for Drrr is very catchy. The two theme songs are magnificent, but only the fist ending managed to catch my attention. The music that was playing during the scenes in the show were great, but only one of them managed to get in my head. It's playing in my head as I'm writing this. None of the other songs managed to stick out, but they were still good nonetheless. 7/10
Character:
The characters in this anime are very interesting. There is no specific main character, similar to Baccano and Fate/Zero. All of the characters get an equal amount of development and all the characters get the same amount of screen time. It's a very interesting concept that should be in anime more often. One of my favorite characters was Izaya Orihara, who is pretty much the god of Ikebukuro, the city in which Drrr is set in. He knows everything and everyone, and gives cases to the Headless Rider, known as Celty, in order to stop crime under the radar of the police. He was one of my favorites because he managed to keep interesting throughout the entire show, always managed to pull a trick out of his sleeve, and was pretty much the nucleus of all the characters. By that I mean he managed to get everyone involved with everyone else. 9/10
Final verdict:
Durarara was an interesting tale that can not be easily described. Describe on thing, the other person asks more and more questions. Suddenly you say something about the ending and you ruin the show for that person. Durarara is an urban tale that will keep you, your eyes, and your attention on the screen at all times. Durarara gets an 8 out of 10

Sword Art Online is, without a doubt, the most popular and controversial anime of 2012. The Sword Art Online, or SAO, community is split into two groups. The people who think it's the best, and people who think it's the worse. I, personally, am on the latter, but I would like to voice my opinion. I also will not be talking about flaws from the second season for spoilers sake.
Story:
The story for SAO started out very strong. The concept of SAO was similar to the .Hack series, except SAO would hopefully have less talking. Being trapped in a virtual reality MMO where if you die
...
in the game you die in real life is basically ever nerds dream. Imagine a virtual reality Skyrim, except the game is extremely difficult and 200 out of the 10,000 players die on the first boss dungeon. However, the story has massive time skips which prevents from establishing a true sense of fear. Everyone adjusts to Sword Art Online almost instantaneously because of the time skips. It also leads to bad character development, but I'll get into that later. The story gets kicked in the teeth in the second half as if the first half was just a prologue, not to mention it wasn't nearly as good as the first half's story. 6/10
Animation:
The animation in SAO is actually very good. Animated by A1-Pictures, who previously have done such anime as Ao No Exorcist and Fairy Tail, have done a very good job with this anime. Every frame is detailed with great lighting, and the action is fast paced and runs at a consistent frame-rate. I think my favorite fight scene was in episode 9, when Kirito, the main character, was fighting the 74th boss, Gleam Eyes, and he pulled a trick out of his ass. That was a very well animated fight. However, the animation in the 2nd half is not as good. It's still good, but not as good as the first half. If the animation were consistently good, it would get a 9. But no. It got an 8. 8/10
Sound:
The OST of this anime was composed by Yuki Kajiura. Yuki Kajiura has fame from such anime as Fate/Zero and Madoka Magica. The music in SAO was very well constructed, with the battle theme being one of my favorites. I also liked the song "Fight!", as it reminded me of the beautiful M12 + 13 from Kara no Kyoukai, another one of Kajiura's works. There's really nothing else to say other than it's great.
Character:
And here's where SAO took a giant dump on itself. Because of the aforementioned time skips, the characters have no time to develop, especially the main character Kirito. The most I got out of him was that he's a badass dude who wears black clothes and plays solo and can win any match. Notice that he plays solo, which any MMO player can tell you is never a good idea. I play Monster Hunter, which isn't exactly an MMO, but it's still fairly similar. I can't even beat any of the bosses without help from a friend online, and that's what made the 2nd episode of SAO so great. He had help from the female lead, Asuna, to kill the first boss. After that he gets black clothes and suddenly he can beat even a dragon by himself. Speaking of Asuna, she's not much better than Kirito. She's introduced as an awesome character in Episode 2, but then she just turns into a tsundere (person, mainly female, who shuns a protagonist before getting to know the person and she lightens up and becomes a love interest) who got no character development because of the time skips. Same with Kirito and Asuna's love for each other. In episode 10, they get married, which is great. The only problem is that in episode 2, it was 2022. In episode 10, it was 2024. Asuna was also shoved out of the spotlight so the side characters can come in and be there for ONE EPISODE. You can imagine why this kind of love interest is bad. It gets even worse in Season 2, when Asuna goes and a new girl protagonist is introduced. She's even worse than Asuna. 4/10
Final Verdict:
I think SAO had SO MUCH WASTED POTENTIAL. It could have been a fantasy epic set in an inescapable virtual world, like Fate/Zero in World of Warcraft. But the story and characters marred it so much that it's almost unbearable to watch. SAO gets a 4/10.
