Yeah, I never really understood the fixation on Fate-chan. She's kinda awesome-looking and all (I guess), but otherwise doesn't stand out too much. If I hadn't been aware going into the show of her popularity, she would've been just another character to me.
I'd recommend not to give up on Kuchu Buranko. It's actually quite touching at times and, despite initial appearances, doesn't seem too wrapped up in being selfconciously edgy and unconventional.
And hey, as long as I'm giving unsolicited advice, I'll add that the first season of Nanoha is worth getting through for the sake of the second season, which is a lot better (albeit still centered around preteens hitting each other with magical hammers).
