- Totally oblivious princess who quickly learns the truth and turns into a badass? - Hidden truths of the world that need to be uncovered? - Racism that needs to be shattered? - Mechs? The themes are both incredibly similar. Cross Ange goes even harder on following the badass chick. I've seen most of the other shows that are recommended after watching 86, and none of them even come close to Cross Ange. Especially the first half of both.

Qualidea Code

While watching Qualidea I just got the feeling of Cross Ange. It's not like they have a ton in common, superficially, but they have similar feels to them. There are common aspects in each: A world built on lies, providing some mystery and intrigue One major, edgy character (Ange is better though) Battles that take place over the ocean Rebellion against the status quo Both are original anime with fully concluded endings though Qualidea has other media that go along with it Both are definitely 3-episode rule anime (though Ange had me at episode 2) There are some differences as well, Cross Ange is twice the length follows primarily one character is a bit more gritty overall uses mechs instead of magic has a top-tier dub that had me sold on realistic military chatter in the first 30 seconds has fanservice... (not as bad as episode one will have you believing) But it's mostly just the feeling of similarity. Like when two people remind you of the other but you cannot quite figure out why...

Man, J.C. Staff seems to have mastered the tsundere. Zero no Tsukaima and Shakugan no Shana have almost literally the same character in Zero/Shana, all the way down to seiyū Kugimiya Rie. If you want more of Zero, you'll find a lot of her in Shana. And if you like that, give Toradora! a shot. The love story is a bit more rewarding in Toradora! All three have the same tsundere and the same actress plays her.

High School DxD

Many of the characters in these series are similar Both are harem/ecchi Both protagonists have hidden powers that make them potentially OP Very strong supernatural elements in both shows DxD is far more ecchi, and has nipples, lots of nipples DxD's protag gets more of a chance to show off his powers DxD runs more seasons, and is a bit more fleshed out in general I got a very strong DxD feeling while watching Himari, especially in the early episodes. The ecchi in Himari is rather poor compared to other harem ecchi, especially one like DxD (practically hentai at times), but it's still enough to satisfy any ecchi cravings.
