Jellyfish Can't Swim In The Night had a strong start with each of the 4 main cast having a struggle with themselves. Each of them struggled with "fitting into the gears of society", but later learns they don't need to be in the gears to be loved. Instead JELEE showed each other's worth and strengths.
Why did I say "had a strong start"? Well...They had solid grounds for character development for multiple characters including the main 4, but they threw that all away with a timeskip at the end.
Speaking of character development, a part that upsetted me the most in the show is Mero
...
herself. She has destroyed lives using an account named "LookIdiot" just to "feel better about herself". Yet she gets no consequences for her actions, she never even apologized to Kano nor to the people she brought down.
On EP 12 it seemed like Mero wanted to start atoning for her actions with her cheering for Kano, but again they threw that character development grounds away with a timeskip.
Despite this show's shortcomings, this show still has a powerful theme of "You don't need to be "normal" to be loved".
In fact when it comes to life, "normal" doesn't truly mean anything.
Like what Kiui said, "What does normal even mean!? That's just some rule grownups made up!".
