This movie couldn't have been more disappointing.

First things first: blatant false advertisement. The poster and trailer show mecha fighting in a new city that wasn't featured in the series, and it looks awesome. But that footage from the trailer is basically ALL of the new content. Other than that tiny bit, the entire movie is just a summary of the series. Why make the new footage of events that are not part of the movie? Why rely on that new footage for the trailer and poster? The only reason is to attract fans of the series, by tricking them without outright lies, alongside new ... viewers.

Onto the actual movie itself: fake new content aside, it is a poor summary of a good series. Cutting clips from approximately 10 hours of footage which was designed to work as a 25-episode series down to a 2.5 hour movie is always going to be a tricky undertaking, and it certainly didn't go well this time. A lot of context is missing, character development is cut out, and if I hadn't already watched the series so I could fill in the blanks I think several bits would have been quite confusing. Except, having watched the series, there isn't really any reason to watch this poorly-stitched-together summary, making its very existence pointless and redundant.

I can only conclude that this is a cheap money-making scam, and I wish I could get back the time I wasted watching it.

This manga had so much potential, in my opinion. The main character was funny and seemed like a pretty cool guy, though he's pretty over-powered. The supporting characters didn't get fleshed out much, but seemed interesting as well. The setting is huge, so much that could have been used for further arcs. But, it just ended.

However, my main problem with this manga is something I can't say because it's a major spoiler. Which annoys me, because I wish I'd known in advance so that I could have prepared for it or maybe even avoid this manga altogether. Even though I started it knowing it ... was complete at only 17 chapters, I don't feel that can excuse this issue. And I can't even tell you what it is. So, instead, I'll say this: don't waste your time on this manga, it'll get your hopes up only to leave you feeling frustrated and disappointed.
