I thought this was overall OK. I liked the the romance, the art was fairly nice, and the nightclub setting was kinda cool. Like others have said though there are some issues. Throughout the course of the story I had trouble following peoples motivations for why they were doing what they did sometimes, and both the main characters thoughts/backstories were not developed very well. I was willing to overlook those because the romance was cute and fun to read. That was until the final arc/ending... frankly I would recommend you just stop reading once they finish their big rave in the final volume and consider
...
that the end.
FINAL ARC RANT/SPOILERS BELOW
The final arc has Kei go on a business trip and then suddenly disappear without contacting Emi or any bandmates. They of course go looking for her and when they do find her this is what it was:
Kei got a call from a relative while at a train station on the way back from her business trip that her parents very large business back in Toyama has literally burned down and they need her to help with getting stuff straightened out (which will take awhile, like a year according to Kei's estimate). So what does Kei do? She drops everything, takes the first train from that station over to Toyama without even stopping home to pick anything up or telling anyone, and seemingly planned to never come back or contact her girlfriend (who lives in Kei's apartment now) or bandmates again, or at the very least for a year once stuff was sorted with her parent's business. (??????????) The cherry on top is that we had never even heard anything about her family before besides that "they weren't close", hinting they they had issues.
Anyways so Emi, with the help of the bandmates, track down Kei by using her iPhone tracking app and she goes to Toyama herself to see Kei and was basically like "yo wtf" talks about it with her. After a bunch of melodrama the new plan was now "Kei must come back after a year, Emi will stay in Kei's apartment for the year alone, Emi will take over temporarily as band coordinator to set up concerts for the band until Kei gets back". Emi wanting to do this was clearly was clearly made out by the author as some sort of huge declaration of love or something, but it just seemed like she was just doing what any sane person would do in that situation and what Kei should have done in the first place so... yeah.
So yeah Emi heads back to Tokyo and finds a job and does band stuff the end. No reunion scene after the year was up or anything, just Emi biking to work several months later being the final scene. There seemed to be no mention of them potentially visiting each other during the year for some reason, even though Tokyo to Toyama is like 2-3 hours by Shinkansen. Not an every weekend type of distance but like, I feel like normal people would be visiting each other regularly or something idk.
The whole thing was just nonsense on top of nonsense. One of the worst endings I've ever seen in anything. I did enjoy everything prior to it though. Solid 7.5 until the ending.
