A fantastic take on Isekai that doesn't rely on tropes to make it enjoyable. Thinking of it as a regular, run-of-the-mill Isekai will just make you hate the show. At its core, it answers the question that we all secretly wonder: how would other worlds deal with overpowered people from another world, and what would you do if there was one that was unkillable?
The show isn't perfect but does an excellent job of establishing the characters it uses. At no point does it try to reach into random dramatic character arcs, it focuses on its story and is straightforward. The synopsis doesn't lie, and while

Never read the manga so I went into it blind. The show's plot is decent, but for the most part, everything feels empty. The characters don't feel like actual people, Denji seems like he could be a lot funnier/more interesting but he just says dumb stuff. The only episode that was remotely interesting was episode 8 because something actually happened. Every episode leading up to it felt like I was watching filler. The show doesn't really give any of the characters motives or personalities until after episode 8 and even then it feels forced.
Then there's the animation. I don't keep up with anime studios ...

So I've read some of the other reviews that say the manga was supposed to be satirical, but the show comes off more like a chuuni incel fantasy. The first thing I thought of the MC in the first episode was the quiet kid in the back of the classroom and then the show immediately proved me right as the MC goes full vigilante just to make himself feel cool. Then he gets himself isekaid by throwing a tantrum because he finally realized he's no one special.
Move on to the fantasy world and he continues to "act average" or in reality just look down on ... |
