The Misfit of Demon King Academy, otherwise known by its Japanese title (whose translation is way too long to include in this text), comes off initially as yet another power fantasy anime from the last couple of years. An overpowered protagonist going episode by episode essentially showing off in one way or another without breaking a sweat.
As it stands, one normally wouldn't bat an eye when presented with such a premise. However, the key difference stands in how much the show delivers on it, to the point of going overboard and becoming quite the comical spectacle. Though there's hardly any wonder in the protagonist's success,
...
the engagement comes in the extent to which he will do so. More so, Anos's charisma and good will combined with a laid back attitude while performing his outlandish stunts make him quite the loveable character in levels others have previously struggled.
That is not to say he leaves the rest of the main cast too far behind. From the comic reliefs to the most serious approaches, they each contribute in some shape or form, however minor, to the general structure of the show, while still having a bit of personality that make them stand out. Nevertheless, they all still need to have some sort of relationship with Anos as one might have expected, and due to his status they can come off as quirky underlings.
In the presentation department, there are a variety of songs that can be accounted for apart from the opening, especially the ones that play unexpectedly during some of its battle scenes. Speaking of which, the animation doesn't slack off while keeping up with the action and the huge arsenal of magic spells that come up in them. On the other end, it also presents the world with a handful of gorgeous landscapes and scenery.
Despite the above, its lowest point comes, unsurprisingly, from its plot development. While not necessarily contradicting itself in its over-the-top cohesion, it can be very hard to follow. In fact, in some scenes there isn't at first glance a clear indication of what's being shown on screen and why or how it matters in the grand scheme of things. This is particularly accentuated towards the end with a couple of arguably rushed episodes that end that leave some stones unturned or not well crafted.
Regardless of its absurdity, all in all there are numerous factors that contribute to its overall engagement and make it an unusual recommendation from the current season even if it isn't to be taken seriously.

Barakamon is one of those shows that ends ups being better than what it initially seems. As it follows the main character's growth in both skill and awareness, we are shown a cast full of interesting and quirky side characters that play at least a part on each episode. As so, the main focus is not only in his work development but also on their comical interaction.
In fact, that might as well be the highlight of the show. The contrast between their lifestyles and his impulsive mannerisms set up scenes that range from slightly jokey to hilariously laughable. What's more, the pacing between them and
...
their life lessons counterparts must be commended on the resulting emotional watch.
Presentation wise, while the island has a handful of gorgeously looking scenarios, one's attention is mainly driven towards the reproduction of Japanese calligraphy. It's importance in their culture might be unknown or underestimated to foreign on younger viewers. Meanwhile, the voice acting direction in the dubbed version is on point, reproducing every role in a way that does not come as unnatural.
However, there are two aspects that could be improved to enhance the watching experience, that being the soundtrack and the sound design. On the one hand, not much is to say about the former as it can come across as mostly forgettable with the exception of the opening and ending songs. On the other hand, the latter shows it's worst on the frequent deafening screams present on the delivery of some the younger characters. Fortunately, it can come as mildly uncomfortable in comparison to other shows from the same vein.
To summarize, there are many aspects in which Barakamon excels at throughout the course of its episodes. Definitely, an unexpectedly high recommendation from its season.

While not being overly thrilling, this Amaama to Inazuma manages to tell a heart-warming family story that should resonate especially with first-time parents. It mixes both the joy of child raising and the grievances that come from its responsibilities in a daily basis, focusing particularly on bonds shared over a home-cooked meal by a father and his daughter.
Presentation-wise it is moderately standard both in sound design and artwork. As the former shines mostly on the cooking sections, with slightly rushed step by step recipes which can be implemented nonetheless, the latter is highlighted in both the opening and ending songs, which are respectively invigorating and

peaceful, as is often the case in this genre.
On the lower end comes the somewhat formulaic play on each epsiode, starting from early on. Even if done in a suitable manner, it ends up hurting the parental development that the show could potentially achieve, as well as diminishing the conflict presented on each one. As so, it could also be portrayed as a cooking show with an attached story.
All in all, I recommend it for its comforting family nature as well as its take on cooking, not so much for its overall parenthood story progress.
