This is what I wanted K-On! to be, best music anime I've seen yet. The biggest difference to versions of "girl band anime" I've seen before is that the characters all feel like real people instead of various paper-thin cute archetypes. What's also not paper-thin here is the animation, the new 3D CGI animation style allows instruments to look like they're being played accurately for the first time, if you're a musician you will appreciate that you can analyze the mo-cap performances similar to real shows. This was pitched to me as a romantic comedy about space lesbians. Unfortunately there is not much in the way of romance, comedy, or queerness, leaving only the "space" bit which is pretty uncompelling on it's own.

From reading other reviews of this show on here, I discovered Utena, which on one hand made watching Mercury worth it just to discover this gem. On the other hand, I now understand what a blatant and uncreative ripoff of Utena this show is, but executed so much worse.

If your satire fails you just made the thing.

This is the result for Eminence, which i'm told was intended to be satirical but ended up just being a straightforward collection of all the worst tropes in isekai, without any attempt at commentary or subversion. Overpowered protagonist, pointless sexless harem, not a single character with any kind of depth or motivation, in fact the show seems to hold in contempt the idea that someone could act out of some kind of genuine conviction.
